John McKenzie was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1960. He practised in both Sydney and Port Macquarie before merging his practice with Thorntons in 1993. He became a consultant to the firm in 2012.

He has developed a wide range of business, professional and sporting contacts for whom he continues to act for today.
